In this paragraph I want to talk about the big problem in the UAE especially in the biggest cities such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The people face this problem during the last 3 years even in the quiet city Al Ain, so this is becoming a serious problem day after day. Traffic jams are caused by many factors such as environmental effects like the fog especially in the early morning, population effects like the large increase in the UAE population which is the main cause of rearranging the roads and making them wider to decrease the traffic jams. Accidents are one of the main reasons for traffic jams. In this case I observe that there are so many problems and there are solutions for each, which I will explain and discuss both of them in this essay.
There are many problems of the traffic jam which I will start with it and give examples of it. One of the main effects of this problem is the economic effect; traffic jams affect the economy of the country by increasing the number of the accidents and that means many deaths, loss of the general facilities, lateness for work because business is located in the center of the cities specially in the rush hour, which leads to a decrease in the total income.
Another fact is that the number of the cars in the UAE have extremely increased because of the incredible increase of the population; that means every one in the UAE wants to drive his own car; also the roads and streets are not like before because they have become too narrow because of the number of the cars, as I said previously.
Moreover one of the biggest effects is pollution in the external environment. Rob Corder from Arabian business news said in his article “Dubai's traffic pollution among world's worst” and he gives some facts about this saying: “The city ranks among the worst in the developed world using an On-road Vehicle Emission Measurement device, which assigns a percentage score for the levels of harmful pollutants including hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide.
On the other side there are considerable solutions for this problem and I will give most of the possible solutions done by the government and people. Firstly the government aims to better manage in the traffic by analyzing, planning and improving the general roads to make a better lifestyle for all the residents in the UAE with nice views of the cities. Government plans are decreasing the pollution and to decrease the number of deaths; all these steps can be done by making the public transportation like the metro, buses and taxies. Additionally the government is conducting wider places for the buses and heavy cars and planning side roads to avoid crowding. Encouraging the people to ride the public transportation will benefit all the the people, the government and the environment as well. Another important step by the government is opening a new company, Saaed, that helps the police to manage, support and monitor the general roads; also Saaed company play big role to manage the parking because the drivers before pamced the car randomly which made many problems in the general road; this is the view of the UAE government; it,s planning for the higher standerd of lifestyle for future so if you want to reach to something valuable you have to lose something to reach your goals.
Finally I want to say that the good news is that there are some solutions already being mulled by concerned authorities. Some of the solutions are 911 “comprehensive study of traffic-related problems, including the public transport system and road capacity, also re-distribution of government functions and some of the vital institutions should relocate outside the city to ease pressure in the heart of the city and thus reduce traffic congestion. Another solution is an E-traffic system should be speedily instituted and its operational environmental should be improved; metro and railway systems should be established to link internal and outlying areas“.
